Knoch School Community,
We are soliciting the support of students, teachers, parents, and community members to be a part of the AI at Knoch Committee. This group will assist in developing a framework that promotes the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence tools throughout the Knoch School District. The first meeting will be held on January 20, 2025, in the Knoch High School Learning Commons (Library) starting at 8:30 a.m.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing rapidly, and the Knoch School District needs to stay flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of our students and staff. As AI becomes an increasingly important part of everyday life, we want to make sure our students and teachers have the tools and knowledge they need to use these technologies responsibly and effectively.
To do this, we are organizing meetings to develop clear guidelines and policies around the use of AI in education. These meetings will focus on creating opportunities for students and teachers to explore AI, understand its potential, and learn how to use it in ways that align with our educational goals and values. Since AI is constantly evolving, our guidelines will be designed to grow and change as new developments emerge. This means regularly reviewing and updating our policies to include the latest research, teaching strategies, and ethical considerations. We want to ensure that Knoch students are not only learning how to use AI but are also equipped with the critical thinking and ethical reasoning skills they need to use it thoughtfully and responsibly.
When we discuss the use of AI in our classrooms, equity and inclusion are also key priorities. These meetings will explore ways to ensure that every student has access to learning opportunities with AI, regardless of their background or abilities. We will discuss how AI can support diverse learning needs and help students thrive in the classroom while also promoting fairness and accountability.
Through these efforts, we hope to create a culture of innovation and responsibility, preparing our students to succeed in an AI-driven world. These meetings are an opportunity for students, teachers, parents, and community members to work together on drafting guidelines that will support how AI is used in our schools, keeping our focus on providing safe, meaningful, and equitable educational experiences for all. Our first meeting will occur on January 20 (In-Service Day) with a second meeting on February 17.
